It’s incredible how one school can transform an entire community…
At The Okoji Innocent Fund, we’ve seen firsthand the need for programmes like ours in developing countries. According to UNESCO, it is estimated that 244 million children and youth between the ages of 6 and 18 worldwide were out of school in 2021. 118.5 million were girls and 125.5 million were boys.
There are many causes for these statistics, the vast majority tied into one key problem – inequality. In places where food and water are scarce, sanitation is limited and learning environments are few and far between, the need for education is replaced with survival.
Through our important work in places like this, what we’ve discovered is clear: one school can transform an entire community. The educational spaces we build become hubs for anyone who lives locally, a safe space where people can find help, support and security. Many of the children who attend our state-of-the-art schools have never experienced such consistency, and are without a family or wider community.
When children feel safe, their survival feels more certain.
When children can learn, a brighter future becomes possible.
